MUH4016 History of Jazz
Explores Jazz music throughout the ages with African, Latin American and Black American sources through contemporary development. Expect to have fun learning about top major innovators in Jazz including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and others. During the course, you'll have the opportunity to attend a live jazz performance of your choice for your reflective paper. What a great way to begin to explore America's #1 art form with so many cultural influences around the world.
PHC 3440 Global Public Health
Explores the disproportionate burden of disease and the gap that is growing among low income countries. Students dive in learning about key health threats in maternal mortality, child under-nutrition, HIV/AIDS, malaria, TB, zoonotic diseases, diarrhea, pneumonia, mental health, gender, and chronic diseases. Health threats such as these are linked to evolving social, economic, and political forces that undermine progress at times. Students are asked to think creatively about how they would intervene to address these challenges and shape a better future for the next generation.
HUM4956 Arts in Medicine
Exposes students and medical professionals to new approaches that go beyond just clinical treatment. Art takes on many forms that has us all reflect on life and the human experiences that come with it. This course is highly reflective and encourages students to explore ways of engaging the others through service learning, academic discourse, and arts practice immersion within healthcare globally.
